Mayfly

Located on the Prees Branch of the Llangollen Canal, Whixall is arguably Britain’s most rural marina. It’s just a half hour cruise to join the main canal then you have the option to turn left for Llangollen itself, or right to Hurleston Junction to join the Shropshire Union Canal.Heading for Llangollen, you will be rewarded with seven miles of quiet winding canal leading into the market town of Ellesmere. Nineteen miles and only two locks later you will reach the historic and picturesque town of Llangollen, with its many attractions, shops and cafes. There are three stunning canal features to experience on your journey. Chirk Aqueduct takes you across the border into North Wales, followed by the Chirk Tunnel which is 421 metres long and then onto the jewel in the crown of the whole canal network, known as the ‘stream in the sky’, the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. Designed and built by Thomas Telford and Williams Jessop, it carries the Llangollen Canal across the River Dee and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. If you prefer a more active holiday head to Chester. A pretty countryside cruise, passing through the town of Whitchurch, brings you to Grindley Brook flight, which is a staircase of six locks.
